The Arrival of Autumn and Preparing for Winter — Denim and BORO

The Arrival of Autumn and Preparing for Winter — Denim and BORO

Hello, this is Fujiwara from the KUON Flagship Store.

The air has turned noticeably cooler over the past week. I usually commute by bicycle, and these days I can’t leave home without a jacket in the morning and evening.
I’m not particularly fond of the cold, but I love how fall and winter allow us to enjoy layering and accessories — and how denim looks especially good this time of year.

Thank You for the Warm Response to the STYLE LAB “Denim Processing/Finishing” Series

Our STYLE LAB “Denim Processing/Finishing” series, launched at the end of September, has received an incredible response.
This line takes a more experimental approach than previous KUON collections, exploring new forms of craftsmanship and design.
We’re truly grateful for all the support and positive feedback.

You can see the full lineup in the space next to our flagship store.
Personally, I’m especially fond of the “Paint-splattered" Series — I often wear the kimono-collar jacket and 2 tuck trousers as a set.

Introducing the “Vintage Boro Patchwork” Series

Today, I’d like to introduce our “Vintage Boro Patchwork” series.

This collection reimagines our “Vintage BORO Blazer,” which debuted in KUON’s first collection for Spring/Summer 2016.
Some of the fabrics used are over 150 years old. Over the past decade, the value of vintage BORO has risen dramatically, making it increasingly difficult to obtain.
Made from indigo-dyed cotton that evokes the look and spirit of vintage denim, BORO has even become a sought-after collector’s item — much like rare jeans.

We source these rare materials through a trusted network of antique dealers built over ten years.
BORO is a true embodiment of Japanese aesthetics and everyday life — which is why, at KUON, we believe in not only “using” it, but also “preserving” it for the future.

About five years ago, we began managing our use of BORO more carefully, and at the same time started creating the “Vintage BORO Patchwork” series — reconstructed fabrics made from leftover scraps and offcuts.

BORO — A Fabric of Regeneration and Creation

In this series, we carefully preserve every remnant of BORO left over from past production,
and our Sashiko Gals artisans stitch them together by hand into new patchwork textiles.
In other words, we take materials that were already upcycled and upcycle them once more — giving them a completely new life.
It’s a truly “regenerative” process in every sense of the word.

In fact, this project was featured at Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence, Italy, where it was on display for a full year —
a moment when tradition and innovation resonated beyond borders.

This Season’s New Piece: The “Vintage Boro Patchwork Vest”

This season, alongside our classic jackets and coach jackets, we’ve introduced a new “Vintage Boro Patchwork Vest”

With the sleeves removed, the vest feels lighter and easier to wear, making it perfect for everyday styling.

One detail I particularly love is the zipper.
We’ve used YKK’s premium “Excella” series, adding a subtle sense of luxury and modern sophistication to the BORO’s rustic character.
It’s a true expression of KUON’s contemporary interpretation of heritage materials.

It looks great on its own as an inner layer, or worn over outerwear for an effortlessly stylish look.

Wearing the Passage of Time

“KUON” (久遠) means “eternity” — something that has existed since long ago and will continue far into the future.
True to that name, we aim to weave the passage of time — past, present, and future — into the garments we create.

We invite you to visit our store and experience what it means to “wear the passage of time.”
