Our Sustainability
Along with our philosophy of addressing social agenda via design. We believe that design is not only about creating things directly, but also about creating things indirectly.
We work on regional and social development through our power of design. KUON welcomes new social activities with various partners.
BORO and SASHIKO
Currently, we partner with “Otsuchi Sashiko Project” in Iwate prefecture, where the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in 2011. We upcycle Boro with their Sashiko technic and it helps recovering them from the disaster, and now it helps people in the community to find positive reasons to live in the community.
SAKIORI
Our Sakiori fabric is made by people with disabilities at “Sakkora JAPAN”. They support for the independence of people with disabilities by teaching traditional Japanese Sakiori technic. They also help passing traditional Japanese upcycling methods to our future.
In addition to these projects, KUON is working to discover and help lasting the aesthetic, traditions and technologies that are being lost, as trying to solve garbage and other issues that arise from the clothing production process.
These are the amounts that we have paid to these social projects as wages.
