Fabric

DORO-ZOME(Mud Dye) is a natural dying technique unique to Amami Oshima, a small island of Kagoshima prefecture. After dying with the essence of Techi tree (Yeddo hawthorn) and soaking in the muddy rice field, this process is repeated over and over again until the color stays. During this process, irons in the mud and tannin pigments of Techi tree are gradually combined and the color becomes deeper and more glossy. The base is a plain weave fabric made of organic cotton 40 count single yarn and 20 count single yarn. It is characterized by the use of fine yarns and a bit loose weave to reduce the volume of the fabric. The result is a sturdy and soft fabric that is crude yet elegant.
