That's why I would like to write about it.

It's a jacquard fabric

Jacquard is a fabric is a woven fabric that features complex patterns loomed by jacquard looms.

The prints we have produced at KUON in the past have been made by skilled craftsmen at a long-established workshop, and they have been reproduced textures so elaborately that they could be mistaken for the real thing, so I can see why people might mistake the patchwork jacquard for a print.

To be honest, when I first saw the photo, I also mistook it for a print. Jacquard weaving, which weaves a complex pattern, offers a three-dimensional and dignified texture with a different expression depending on the thickness of the threads.

So, as I mentioned at the beginning, it is no wonder that it could be mistaken for the Upcycled Boro or Sashiko.

Now, let's take a closer look at the surface.

The patchwork joints are woven three-dimensionally and look like real patchwork fabric. This is not the only secret behind the mysterious appearance of this patchwork jacquard.

Jacquard fabric that ages like denim

The secret of the ageing is in the yarn.

Does it look like some kind of fabric?

Yes, it is denim.

As you may have guessed, the warp is made of rope-dyed yarn with a white core. In other words, this can be a denim woven in a patchwork pattern. The outer dyed part of the yarn is scraped off by repeated wear, revealing the white part of the core. This leads to a unique aging effect.

Incidentally, Jacquard weave is a very durable fabric, so after years of wear, the fabric will become shaggy, the hem will fray, and the atmosphere it creates will become cooler and cooler with time.

One of our frequent visitors has already purchased a pair, of the trousers, so we will be following their progress over time.

In adition to that,

the fabric is washed and tumbled, so it has more texture.

I recommend all of you to see the products made of this patchwork jacquard fabric in person.

Thank you!
