Today, we would like to introduce you to the Karamiori series.
First of all, I would like to ask, "Do you know what Karamiori is?
I first heard about it when I saw the Karamiori series items at the SS23 exhibition.
Before introducing the items, let me give you a brief explanation of " Karamiori".
What is Karamiori?
Karamiori was actively used in Japan more than 1,000 years ago.
It is a weave in which one warp thread is combined with the weft threads while entwining one or two warp threads, resulting in a gap. Just as the name implies.
The characteristics of Karamiori are as follows
・Light and cool visually due to its transparency
・Breathable and quick-drying
・Strong durability
etc…
Light and cool with a sense of transparency. I could tell by looking at it that it was breathable and quick-drying.
However, the strong durability was unexpected.
The warp yarns are tightly intertwined with the weft yarns in Karamiori, so even if something gets caught, the fabric won't slip. The gaping weave might make you feel uneasy, but there is no problem.
This kind of Karamiori, which is durable and lightweight, is also used in nets used by fishermen to catch fish.
Now that you know that Karamiori is a traditional weave that is cool and durable, let's take a look at some of the items that use such Karamiori.
Karamiori Striped Washi/Cotton Bloson
I think it is the most powerful item of the season, and its strength is the most difficult to convey in a photograph.
I also think it is the most KUON-like item.
Japanese and Western, elegant and crude
This jacket was inspired by the uniform of cricket, a traditional English national sport and the prototype of baseball.
The front, back, and sleeves are luxuriously woven with Karamiori, which was popular in Japan 1,000 years ago.
A fusion of Japanese and Western styles.
Furthermore, the fabric with a rustic wrinkled feel is a Japanese paper blend.
Washi cotton fabric has a mysterious look, with a rustic and rough aspect, but it also has a matte texture and elegance.
The more you look at it, the more you are drawn to it.
Elegance and coarseness.
It is not as easy to understand as rags or Sakiori fabrics.
But don't you feel the strength of the material?
It is sure to be cool when worn as a cloak.
Contrast between Karamiori and Washi
Karamiori is a clean, wrinkle-resistant fabric with a looped weave like a knitted fabric.
It contrasts with the rustic wrinkled look of Washi, creating a gap in a single piece of clothing.
People are attracted to gaps, and are naturally drawn to them.
Furthermore, on a sunny day, the intertwined weave reflects the sunlight and shines on the intertwined lines.
The pictures don't do it justice, so please take a look and feel it for yourself.
Finally, a little more...
The lining of the jacket is mesh.
Breathable lining, light and quick-drying Washi, and Karamiori.
This item is also useful during the gloomy rainy season.
Please "see", "touch", and "wear" this item in the store. You will be captivated.
As I have written so far, this is an item that uplifts your heart when you see it or wear it. So please take a look at it first.
By the way, it is also good to match it with a set-up.
Jacket: Karamiori Striped Washi/Cotton Blouson
Pants: Washi/Cotton Pleated Tapered Trousers
Sorry for all the talk about the jacket.
The t-shirt also has a see-through hem, so you can play around with what you wear underneath, and most importantly, it's cool.
It's unobtrusive, but it's nice and subtle.
Thank you!
