Hi it's Shohei.
Today, I would like to introduce a coat from the SS22 collection. I decided to introduce this item first when I saw the samples of the collection.
SALT SHRUNK NYLON Rain Coat
SALT SHRUNK NYLON Rain Coat
Color: Sand
Price: ¥54,000
This is the KUON's first rain coat made with water repellent nylon fabric. First of all, starting with fabric explanation.
"Salt shrinking" process and "Silver coating"
Salt shrinking is a processing method which involves immersing nylon fibers in caustic soda (Sodium hydroxide) and applying unevenness onto surface. By making the yarn bulged, the volume of fibers increase and the fabric become to look shrunk. It’s light yet tough, and resistant to water. Long story short, it is a wrinkled nylon with a bit slimy touch.
Plus, the back of the fabric is coated with silver resin.
Nylon fabrics themselves have water repellent property, but the coating enhance the property. Not only that, it looks good when the silver color peeks.
Mixture of several styles
Next, talking about its style.
It looks like from soutien collar coats when you see it from the front.
The sleeves are derive from US army fishtail parkas.
The back are derive from trench coats.
The elements of the three types of coats are well-balanced and looks normal, but you will feel freshness when you look closer.
Details
Lastly, I would like to talk about a detail I like.
The back yoke is switched with mesh fabric to enhance the ventilation. This is necessary for us to wear it in rainy season in Japan because it is super hot and humid.
Wearing it with the collar up helps to keep the neck area warm.
I wore a sweatshirt and a denim jacket underneath the coat since it is roomy. And I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be worn even in winter if I wore warm clothes inside?" Probably I can. (I think it will probably be cold in winter in cities colder than in Tokyo.) However, it is such a good coat.
I recommend you to try it on when you have a chance.
Thank you!
